Style: Past, Present and Future.

I have finally finished editing my photos for my latest project at uni.
The project, called 'Style: Past, Present and Future', consisted of every student being given a music icon from the 40s through to the 80s/90s and portraying them within a styling shoot for a chosen magazine.
My icon was Frank Sinatra, and my chosen magazine 'Fantastic Man'. When I first got my icon I was really against going for the typical hat and suit look that most people recognise Sinatra for. But after a lot of research and stress I realised that this was going to be the best way to show what I wanted without going too far from my original idea.
So i previously posted a few images that I loved before editing, but I submitted my final image to be processed into the uni book so I thought I'd post what I came up with...

The photo was inspired by photographer Richard Avedon who used the slightly contrasted black and white look and also the dark black border.

R.I.P?

It's the place that all fashion lovers flock for all their fashion magazine needs, whether it be regular monthly titles or specialist annual or biannual issues. But as I discovered recently after a well needed trip there for some new magazines to indulge myself in, R D Franks is closed! (as the photo shows above).
Is the fashion magazine specialist gone for good? After doing quite alot of research online noone seems to know the answer to this question. On November 1st at 4:37pm their final tweet states: 'R. D. Franks is now closed until further notice. Kindest regards to all our lovely customers.'

But, I am sad to say that these suspicions are unfortunately true.

I hope that has cleared things up for some people.
There is a book shop in Covent Garden that sells some unique fashion magazines called Magma, so I would advise you to give that a go. And if you know of any other amazing fashion magazine shops do let everyone know.

Recent Shoot.

I thought I'd post up some of the photos that I took from my last styling shoot.
The whole concept was based around the musical icon Frank Sinatra, at first I didn't want to copy the exact look but while putting the outfit together I realised that Sinatra's look was so iconic it would be a shame to move too much away from it. I styled in a way that would be aimed at an editorial for 'Fantastic Man' magazine as I saw a recent piece in there with David Walliams which I really took inspiration from.
These are just a few of the photos that I liked the best, obviously they are unedited but I thought I'd get some feedback from them.

I'll post the finish photo up in a week or so. The finish photograph will be going into an exhibition at the university and also into a book of photographs of musical icons which will be available to buy soon..!

Dear Santa,

HAPPY 1ST DECEMBER EVERYONE!

While it's still snowing outside for the 2nd day non stop, I'm desperately hoping that uni is closed tomorrow. Mainly because I've got total brain block today and can't find any way of getting this essay finished.
So, in the mean time I thought I'd post a few bits that I have found and am hoping santa will bring me in 25 days exactly! :)

Topshop, Faux Sheepskin Backpack, £45.
I've had my eye on this little beauty for a few months now. It has that perfect winter feel with the faux sheepskin but still extremely stylish at the same time. I have started to wonder whether it would be any good in this snowy weather though, as faux furs usually just absorb water, which wouldn't be convenient when I was planning on using it to carry my laptop...

Urban Outfitters, Suede Chelsea Wedge, £85.
You would not believe how long I have been searching for a pair of black wedges for. I had an exact idea of how I wanted them to look and genuinely thought that I was going to have to give up my search, until I found these little beauties! I am a huge fan of chelsea boots, so the subtle detailing on these wedges is perfect, also they're suede which although could mean them getting dirty alot quicker than usual makes them look even more amazing for that snug winter look. I went into Urban Outfitters recently to try them on to make sure they fitted ok (just incase anyone was to get them for me for xmas) and they looked and felt amazing, I'm probably the first person to say I am not a big fan of heels at all, but they were so comfortable! A definite christmas must have.

American Apparel, Sleeveless Lawn Button-Up, £36.
Sweet and Simple. I love how this shirt has the length but isn't too frumpy on the top which you can sometimes find with the 'oversized' look. Again, this is another piece I have been dreaming about for months. I really love this colour too, I'm not usually a fan of pink, but this candyfloss colour gives a nice warm pastel effect without it looking too summery. (Of course it would look great in the summer so long lasting!). It would look great tucked into jeans or having it tucked out with tights/leggings. I really like the slight transparency of it too which gives it a twist on a normal sleeveless shirt.

And lastly...

Urban Outfitters, Boy London Tee, £35.
This t-shirt I have been wanting for absolute forever! It was around a few years ago, but now Urban Outfitters have bought it out, along with a few variations of it. I have no idea where the design originated from, and not even a clear reason why I like it so much. But I think it's a definite must have in the new year when the sales are on and the loan comes through.

I've probably wrote more here than I have attempted to write on my essay today, although it has got me in a typing mood.
Peace Out x

Soz + Chips

So, I apologise to everyone for me not tweeting much recently. I've been pretty run down with uni work (now that I'm a proper student and what not).
I thought I'd post up some pics of what I've been doing with my life since September...

This was the final image for my first project. Based around the icon of a top hat I had to style a shoot on the influences that I got from my research.

I need YOU!

So I haven't blogged for a while, soz and chips. There's been lots going on with the flat and now I have to get on with this summer holiday project.
As I've finally had time to blog, this means that I have finally got a day off from everything and I intend to make full use of this 'nothingness' day. I am currently sitting at my dining table in a pair of jeans I haven't worn in about a year and didn't even know still fit me, hair scraped back, listening to Guns'n'Roses.

So the main point of this post is I need some people to model for me next week for my summer holiday project. If you own any of these garments (preferably more than one, please get in contact!):
- T Shirt
- Leather Jacket
- Tuxedo
- Trench coat
- Shirt
- Little Black Dress
- Jeans
- Shoes (REALLY nice or unusual ones)
- Handbag
- Printed scarf
- Corset
- Bikini
- Hat
- Suit
These all apply for mens and womens fashion so anything would be good :) Let me know if you can help out. Thanks x

Longest day ever

My day today started at 6am. Despite putting my alarm on for 6.30 my body decided an earlier start would be better :/ After paying £18 for a bloody travel card just because it was peak time, I had to sit on a train with all the 'suits'. This did give me time to start reading a book that I was supposed to start in the first year of my National Diploma at college, 'A Room Of Ones Own - Virginia Wolfe'.
It was the day of the big 'meeting' at Anna Lou today. Well I say 'meeting' quite loosely as it was more like an interview! :( Stacey, the office manager was really helpful, just generally natting to me about the intern and what I'll be doing during the trade shows, basically everything that she'd already said in the email saying that the intern was mine. It wasn't until Anna actually came in and totally confused me. She asked about my experience and what I wanted to get out of the intern. Then she asked whether I'd be interested in doing office experience (what I didn't understand was whether this means I still have the placement at the trade shows or that she wants me in the office instead?). At the end of the meeting she said I will hear from her by Friday so fingers crossed!
This didn't put me in a very good mood, and I had to travel back to Waterloo on the train in the boiling heat. But I was about to spend the day with my favourite smellypops :)
The reason for this day out was to put my £18 travel card to good use and to get some fabric from Shepards Bush market for the cushions that are being made for me. Well, the fabric wasn't bought but we did put the travel cards to VERY good use, not on the tube but on the buses! After tattoo shops, photobooths, pizza hut and the weather being FAR too hot I had a pretty good day that made me forget all about my disheartening meeting this morning.
Now that I am home I am finding it difficult to remember even leaving my house this morning. A big, well deserved lie-in is in order tomorrow before I go to work and then off to Flat 4 for the first sleep over! Yep, I'm WELL excited! :D

FYI. 31st August - Watch this space! ;)

Miss you!

The one thing I'm going to miss the most once I've left Essex.

Aggy <3 BFF's!

All work no play

After spending my WHOLE weekend at work I am finally home, despite my train being delayed by 20 minutes! :( I have one more shift at work tomorrow night and that's my extra long busy weekend over with. I have managed to get some bits for Flat 4 over the past few days, I think I have decided on neutral tones as the colour scheme so that I can adapt it to pretty much anything. Including an adaptation to these little beauties.. Which Alison has ever so kindly agreed to make me to go on my swish sofa bed.

So these are the bits I've bought, yes they look boring, but wait until I start accessorizing everything! ;) (more pictures to come) Oh and the IKEA sale ended today, well gutted! :(

My meeting at Anna Lou is getting closer and I still have no idea what I'm going to wear. Tonight I might go through some outfits and see what I can throw together (realistically that's exactly what's going to happen!)

Songs of the summer?

I hate waiting for emails

More emails this morning when I woke up at the stupid time of 8am on my day off. All because some stupid woman across the street was trying to shout over the wind about how her greyhound was having a 'makeover'.
Anyway, yes it was from Anna Lou of London AND I have been invited to a meeting on Tuesday at the Anna Lou HQ to meet the ACTUAL Anna!! They want to to me about my current skills and what skills I would like to gain from the placement. I have NO idea what I am going to say. If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly welcomed :)
I now need to find an acee outfit that is going to impress the socks off Anna and the ALoL girlies, and I have also been told by my mum that I MUST have a haircut which she has kindly offered to pay for. EXCITED!

On another note, I didn't visit Flat 4 today, the weather was far too windy and I just found out from my mum that there are no trains running between Barking and Fenchurch Street because this crazy wind has blown a tree on the track. I shall definitely be paying 2 visits next week though, I think it's probably time I started handing some CVs out.

Best week ever?

I woke up this morning, only to find an email on my phone that has cheered me up ALOT! :) Last week I was aimlessly applying for work experience and interns, in order to give me something creative to fill my spare time with as well as hoping this will help me help me get a bangin' placement in my second year of uni because of the experience I have.
I was also quite anxious to try out my new creative CV that took a LONG time to make and see if I could get at least some good feedback from it, even if noone offered me jobs.

So, yeah, I woke up this morning and found an email from Anna Lou of London, who I am a BIG fan of and applied for an intern there just out of chance that I saw it advertised whilst looking through the website (CLICK HERE FOR THE WEBSITE).
Basically the first part says this.

"Hi Sam,

Thank you for getting back to me. More information will follow but looking over your CV you sound like the perfect candidate for assisting at our upcoming shows.

Obviously this is a VERY good start :)
Basically I will be working between 2 trade shows for a week rubbing shoulders with "high regarded members of the press and fashion buyers"

To be honest this is the icing on the cake to top of what has been a pretty damn good week. TTFN xx

We are in!

I would have started this earlier but I've practically been rushed off my feet for the past week or so sorting out, what is now, the new flat! Monday was the day when we finally exchanged money and got our keys, it was nice to just sit down knowing the place is actually ours now.
There is one thing majorly missing at the moment, a TV. As much as I can probably say I love the sound of my own voice, I'd much prefer the hum of the TV in the background. Although it's pretty much empty at the moment, I have BIG plans for this little place. This will start with a visit to IKEA (If anyone has a car in which they would like to chauffeur me about for the day, it would be very much appreciated).

At the moment I'm getting a little fed up because I just want everything moved in, and with my mum's car grounded at the moment it doesn't look like my belongings are going anywhere fast. I want to get all the moving out of the way so that I can get back into work and projects again, but with everything crazy at the moment I need to focus on getting a new job in Rochester as at the moment I'm still living at my mum's because of the STUPID amount of money it would cost to get to and from Lakeside for work.
So right now I'm thinking a trip to Lakeside early before work to get some new bed sheets, cushions and kitchen stuff is in order! I've written so many lists in the past few weeks it's unbelievable!
Feast your eyes on the lovely little view from the front window of Flat 4 (yes I think I shall name it in the third person). All invites to the house warming party/pub crawl shall be sent out in due course... (maybe)

On another note, I have all my clothes back now. This has also made me want to go out and buy more clothes which is NOT good at this moment in time. I think my shopping addiction shall be strictly household items at the moment. IKEA? BRING IT ON!
